Today Jake finalised some of the ideas He’s been experimenting with for Scobie’s logo. In keeping with the military/ WWII theme we decided to use the spitfire image as our main logo. The spitfire is made from other images of different textured pieces of material. This theme is carried through Scobie’s other art work, which includes the image of a tank and an ‘H’ bomb and Jake’s self portrait

Jake went back to the studio to mix the tracks of the Scobie demo. Whilst doing this he added a few synthesiser parts to the back ground, to fill out the texture a bit. By the end of the day the we had the 3 songs bounced and ready to be uploaded the internet. We were all pleased with the result and pretty impressed with ourselves that we managed to get a slick sounding demo together in less than 2 months.
We could now use the Scobie demo to get gigs and promote ourselves.
John recorded Jake playing the electric guitar parts or the Scobie demo. Later in the day Jake recorded the vocals. We were pleased that we managed to get all of the parts done in one day.
Jake and John met at West Thames to record the Guitar and Bass parts for the Scobie Demo. Firstly we recorded the Acoustic Guitar parts. Then the John recorded the double bass parts. We had 3 microphones on the double bass and we recorded several parts. This helped to give the bass a really massive sound.
We met at West Thames to make our first recording as Scobie. We set up our gear in Studio 1 and made a test recording. We decided to record James’s parts first, as the drums are always the most complicated instrument to record. After playing through all of the numbers we decided to focus on recording drums for 3 songs: ‘Funk and Funktionality’; ‘Switched’ and ‘Wout’s Room’. It was a hard day but we ended up with some really decent sounding recordings
First rehearsal for the band ‘Scobie’. Jake Briggs on vocals and Guitar, James Horsburgh on drums, John Brockhouse on Double Bass. Jake has worked with James before in a later incarnation of his band MORPH, and with John in the Kingston based Jazz band ‘Telling Tales’. Jake has 5 songs which he has been working on over the last 2 months: ‘Wout’s Room’; ‘The Madness of King Jake’; ‘Funk and Funktionality’; ‘Switched’; and ‘Control and Awareness’
The plan is to for Scobie to rehearse these and record a 3 or 4 track demo next month.
